What is Huellas 1?

Deja tu huella en el mundo

If you’re looking at the upcoming school year with a mix of dread and fear… and excitement about finally seeing your students again… we are in the same boat. I’ve spent the summer trying to plan for the possibility of being face to face OR being remote.

Huellas 1 is the result of this summer planning.

By combining some of the units I’ve already used with students, adding some new features, and adding new lessons to round out the learning, I hope that Huellas 1 will help both me and YOU face the new year with confidence!

If you are teaching level 3, 4, or AP, Huellas might be just what you’re looking for. It reinforces students basic skills while also exposing them to the higher level structures they need to boost their proficiency! And it’s wrapped in a comprehensible set of units that will help students learn more about sustainability, current events, world issues, and their own self and community.

To learn more about what is inside the Huellas covers, take a look at our units one by one.

I began teaching Spanish in Illinois in 1994. I have taught levels 1-4 in a small rural high school, 8th grade introductory Spanish, Biology 1, and 101 and 102 at the community college level. My Spanish classes are partnered with the community college to offer students 8 semester hours of dual credit on completion of Spanish 4. In 2011 I met Carol Gaab and Kristy Placido and have since co-authored the book "La hija del sastre" with Carol Gaab and authored the novels "La Calaca Alegre", "Bianca Nieves y los 7 toritos." "Vector," "48 horas" and "Bananas" through Fluency Matters. In 2006 I became National Board certified and I have been serving as a mentor both for candidates seeking certification in world languages other than English and a virtual mentor for candidates in all certificate areas. I completed my Masters degree in Spanish education in 2011 and did my research on the use of Understanding by Design to create meaningful cultural units for the language classroom. I am a frequent presenter on this topic, please consider me if you are interested in a workshop on backward design. In 2013 I was named the ICTFL Foreign Language teacher of the year and in 2014 I was selected as CSCTFL's teacher of the year. In November of 2014 I was lucky enough to be one of the five finalists for the ACTFL National Teacher of the Year in San Antonio, TX. What a "Cinderella" experience! 1. I just tried it and it still says the video has been removed… I refreshed, etc. and still nothing…

  2. Hello again! I did find the video about Huellas 1…I just looked in You Tube and it was there. OK, so I love your materials… I have purchased a lot of your materials in the past, such as the sustainable goals super unit and others that are part of Huellas 1 and will be part of Huellas 2. You have said that we won’t have to repurchase things that we have already purchased…but how do we do that? The bundle price is discounted. Do we have to just buy the rest of what we don’t have individually…which will come cost more than just buying the discounted bundle. Just curious if there is a way around this?
    Thanks for your wonderful resources!!

    1. Hi! Yes, the bundle price is really REALLY discounted to let early adopters. The regular price is going to be $90. I will do the same with Huellas 2 when it is ready! I know some people will already own the older units but they’ll also be able to download them with the new changes without extra cost as the unit prices rise! Hopefully it will make it more painless! šŸ™‚ Thank you so much for the kind words! I feel so relieved to have everything planned both for face to face and remote as we are now THREE WEEKS from school!

      1. This is amazing! I love all of your units!! How long will the discount price be in effect? Iā€™m waiting on district approval.

      2. TPT usually has a sale some time in the first week of August. I didn’t want to wait that long for the discount since so many teachers are not sure HOW they’re going to give lessons remotely! I started it early and will end the sale along with the end of the TPT sale (but they haven’t announced yet when/if that will be). If they DON’T have a sale for some reason, I’ll leave it on sale through that first whole week of August.

  3. The promo ad link is not working…

So excited to learn more. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and hard work with us. I am such a better teacher because of kind educators such as yourself(:
