What does it mean to help someone feel seen, accepted, understood, and valued?

In Three People Who Helped Others Feel Seen, students explore that question through Spanish-language biographies of Harvey Milk, Temple Grandin, and Fred Rogers. Their lives and careers looked very different, but each found a way to use their voice, experiences, or work to make life better for others.

Students will learn about Harvey Milk’s work for civil rights and representation, Temple Grandin’s contributions to animal science and autism advocacy, and Fred Rogers’s commitment to helping children understand their emotions, differences, and their own value.

Like the other packets in this series, you can use this resource in two different ways.

Use the one-day Centers option when you need something meaningful between units, before a break, after testing, or anytime you have an extra class period. Students rotate through the three biographies, complete a graphic organizer, and compare the individuals’ experiences and contributions.

Or use the 3-Day Flexible Learning Plans for emergency sub days, planned absences, testing schedules, snow/e-learning days, asynchronous learning, synchronous virtual instruction, or students who will be absent for several days.
