The Golden Years aren’t always so golden. Our students can be a great connection between our school and our community’s senior citizens. In this unit, students will explore the way that senior citizens are treated in different countries of the world. Their years of experience and knowledge are so valuable. The unit includes several cross-curricular connections to help you and your class build a connection with their own peers and the seniors in your community. With an option for remote contact during times of high flu and other viral spread, there are ways to get kids involved with the seniors even digitally!
Description
Los años dorados is a Spanish 4 CI curriculum unit from the Huellas 2 curriculum sequence designed to build proficiency through community connection, global perspectives, and meaningful comprehensible input. In this 12‑day unit, students explore aging, intergenerational relationships, and the treatment of senior citizens in different cultures around the world. Students examine how older adults are valued, supported, and included in society while reflecting on the wisdom and experience seniors bring to communities.

Through cross‑curricular connections and service‑learning opportunities, students develop the language needed to describe experiences, express empathy, compare cultural practices, and communicate across generations. The unit includes flexible options for in‑person and remote interaction, allowing students to connect with senior citizens even during times when in‑person contact is limited.
