Teachers, Somewhere to Share is changing!

First, the most important part: you’ll still be able to get everything you use from me, some of it is just moving to a new home. Here’s what’s happening and why.

I want to start by saying (again) how much TPT has meant to me as a teacher-creator. It carried my family through the years when my husband was changing careers. It helped pay for my kids’ college. It even funds little projects with my students. And it’s been great for you, too: one checkout for many stores, and an easy way for new teachers to find me. I don’t want to leave TPT.

But TPT has changed. It was bought in 2023 by IXL Learning, and the new owners are now asking teacher-creators to sell only on TPT. To me, that crosses an important line. My resources are my intellectual property, and I should get to decide where they’re sold.

That matters for you, too. Many of you teach in districts that don’t allow TPT purchases. That’s why I built Somewhere to Share, and why Huellas is also sold through The Comprehensible Classroom. To keep my current status on TPT, I would have to shut down my site and stop selling Huellas anywhere else. I just can’t do that to the teachers who depend on those options.

Sellers who don’t go exclusive get moved to TPT’s basic tier. The way I read the new terms, TPT keeps 45% of every sale plus $0.30 per transaction. On a $10 resource, I’d take home $5.20. TPT’s whole marketplace is built on teachers’ work, and it doesn’t feel right to put creators in this position.

So here’s my plan, for now:

  • Staying on TPT: Clip Chats, Songs of the Week and individual units. You’ll still be able to grab smaller resources there like always.
  • Moving to Somewhere to Share only: all bundles, including Huellas, Song of the Week, Clip Chat and Huellas Your Way. You’ll also still find all of Huellas at The Comprehensible Classroom.
  • Sales: as a basic seller, I don’t believe I am allowed to join TPT’s sitewide sales. So all of our sale days will happen on Somewhere to Share.

I wish I could simply close the TPT store and walk away, but I don’t think that’s right for you or for me right now. I’ll keep watching as TPT makes more decisions and let you know if anything changes. Isn’t this just a kerfuffle?

Thank you for working through this with me. If you’re worried about anything, from a purchase you’ve already made to a district rule, just reply to this email. Whatever happens with TPT, I’m a teacher and you’re teachers. We’re in this together!
