Description
Before tackling an authentic piece like La noche boca arriba, try breaking it down into a more comprehensible text so that students (particularly struggling readers) have some common knowledge to build from as they read.
In this two day unit, students target key words through a simple vocabulary slide show, do a read and draw gallery walk, read an adapted version of the classic story and answer questions about it, and compare it to another familiar story (I chose my reader Vector because that’s why I wrote the book – as an intro to magical realism).
This little freebie has everything you need to introduce the story to your students! Give it a try. And if you teach Vector, they’ll find a lot of connections!
