ACTFL 2025 – Will you be there?

I am so excited to be exhibiting at ACTFL for the second time. Last year was a learning experience. This year, I feel a lot more prepared as I head into the exhibit hall. I can’t wait to visit with you, learn with you, and offer you fun freebies in my sessions!

Stop by any time! I am at booth 823, right next door to my friend Annabelle (La maestra loca) and right behind my friends at The Comprehensible Classroom. My buddy Señor Wooly is WAAAAY across the hall, but be sure to visit him too!

Here is what you can expect at our booth:

  • WE HAVE BUTTONS. I’m not kidding, our buttons this year are so fun, you have to stop and pick one up.
  • We have BOOKS. We are bringing my new book El espíritu de Xólotl and a sample of the teacher guide. You can also take a listen to the audio book if you’d like. It is SO GOOD. My artist and my voice artist both knocked it out of the park. We are also bringing books for some friends. We will have three new readers from Kristy Placido, Nelly Hughes’s book Keiko, and Marta Yedinak’s book Xolo! The books are $10 each as a conference special and if you buy 4, they’re $30. If you come to Kristy and my session “Robust Reading” on Friday, you’ll get a coupon for a free Placido or Toth reader of your choice!
  • We have Huellas sample units printed out AND we have a discounted price. Huellas 1, 2, or both are 25% off at the conference and also online during the conference if you can’t make it to New Orleans.   • We are participating in the digital contact collection. If you come by to get your badge scanned, you can scan our QR code for “all the freebies” and you’ll also be entered into a drawing we will do on Black Friday. I began teaching Spanish in Illinois in 1994.  I have taught levels 1-4 in a small rural high school, 8th grade introductory Spanish, Biology 1, and Spanish 101 and 102 at the community college level. My Spanish classes are partnered with the community college to offer students 16 semester hours of dual credit on completion of Spanish 4.  In 2011 my first reader was published with Fluency Matters and I continue publishing through Wayside Publishing and Somewhere to Share today. My readers: El espíritu de Xólotl Tucán Papálotl Sostenible Bananas 48 horas Vector Bianca Nieves y los 7 toritos La Calaca Alegre La hija del sastre (with Carol Gaab) I have also authored many teachers resource guides and classroom units (including the Huellas and Empreintes curriculum) for students from novice to upper intermediate. In 2006 I became National Board certified and I have served as a mentor both for candidates seeking certification in world languages other than English and a virtual mentor for candidates in all certificate areas.  National Board certification is something I encourage teachers to explore. I completed my Masters degree in Spanish education in 2011 and did my research on the use of Understanding by Design to create meaningful cultural units for the language classroom. In October 2013, I was named ICTFL Teacher of the Year and in March 2014, I was named the CSCTFL Teacher of the Year. In November 2014, I was one of 5 finalists for the honor of ACTFL Teacher of the Year! Not sure how this happened, I'm just a regular teacher doing my best with regular students like everyone else, but I was so thrilled to have the opportunity. In the fall of 2017, I received National Geographic Educator Certification and am having a great time incorporating science, geography, and the environment into my classes at all levels.
